CodeVault

Privacy policy

Updated October 15, 2026. This policy describes the free CodeVault app for iPhone and iPad.

CodeVault is provided by Michael Smolkin / smolkapps. The app stores your barcode library on your device. It does not upload that library to a developer-operated server, require a separate CodeVault account, or include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.

What stays on your device

CodeVault stores saved barcode and QR content, images, notes, categories, scan history, dates and app preferences locally. If you enable location recording, a code can also have coordinates and a location name.

Camera and selected-photo access are used to scan codes. Code generation and image analysis happen on the device. Device backups may include local app data according to your Apple backup settings.

Permissions and optional location

You control camera, photo, location and notification permissions in iOS Settings. Location is used to record where a code was scanned when that feature is enabled. Converting coordinates to a place name uses Apple’s geocoding service, which can communicate with Apple. Location recording can be disabled in CodeVault’s settings.

CodeVault can request notification permission and register with Apple’s notification service. These Apple services are separate from the app’s local barcode storage.

Apple update checks

The app contacts Apple’s App Store lookup service to check for updates, using the app’s bundle identifier. Barcode values are not included in that update request. Apple’s handling of its services is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

Sharing and external links

When you share an individual code, you select a destination in the system share sheet. If you open a website or product lookup from a code, that destination receives the request. Product lookups can include the selected code value.

Images and shared-code data can contain the code content and any metadata included in that item. Review the item before sharing. Copies you save or send remain subject to the destination’s storage and privacy practices.

Your data choices

You can delete a barcode from its detail screen. Removing it from My Barcodes keeps any existing scan-history entry; clearing Scan History does not delete codes still saved in your library. Uninstalling the app removes its local app container, while backups and copies you shared may remain in the places you saved them.

CodeVault does not provide automatic library sync or a developer-held copy to recover your records.

Support and this website

If you email support, we receive your email address and the information or attachments you choose to send. We use that information to respond to the request. Do not send a password or payment-card details.

These CodeVault product, support and privacy pages send pageview and App Store button-click events to smolkapps’ Umami service. These events measure website visits and download-button intent; they do not confirm app installs or app usage, and they do not include your barcode library. Tracking is disabled when your browser sends Do Not Track. The pages have no advertising or account forms. The web server may receive ordinary connection information, such as an IP address and the requested page, to deliver and maintain the site. Other pages and services you choose to visit may have their own practices.

Changes and contact

We will update this page if CodeVault’s data handling changes, with a new date. For privacy questions, email smolkapps@gmail.com.
